woodlenses are used to decouple equipment in the horizontal plane down to very low frequencies. They work by rolling equipment on (usually) three spherical support points, keeping the points self-centering. The wood used is a very slow growing and extremely hard precious wood growing in Switzerland, lathed and polished by very sophisticated processes. In careful use this polish is very durable, and allows for very low friction, low noise interface points, which is sonically crucial.
By decoupling horizontally and providing a "excellent sounding" vertical interface medium (in this aspect similar to optimal spikes) they have an exceptional effect on audio equipment placed atop of them, be it CD-players, transformers, speakers and amps.
woodLenses free audio equipment cabinets from their strain. Cabinet resonances are reduced, and certain modulation effects are pushed to much lower and less harmful frequencies. Wood also neutralizes the often strident metallic character of these resonances, so instrumental crafting seems to take a part of the effect.
woodLenses have an extremely positive effect on transparency, natural timbres, ambience reproduction and dynamics: the gain in coherency and focus is simply astonishing.
woodLenses are placed on an optimally level, flat and polished surface. (if necessary brass plates can help). The upper contact point on the equipment should be optimally flat as well. Freely resonating areas of thin sheetmetal should be avoided as support points. The ‘elastic’ placement needs a bit of practice. Knobs and buttons should be operated gently (our counter-held with the fingertips from below) otherwise the placement is offset. The wood of woodLenses should be treated with respect, as hard as it is.
And, by the way: After inventing them they were found to look and feel extremely ‘nice’...
